In short
- Our own code sets no cookies: We keep a few settings in your browser's local storage instead. They stay on your device and are not sent to advertisers.
- No advertising or tracking: We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking or analytics today.
- Other companies are opt-in: Google sign-in and videos hosted by YouTube or Vimeo can set their own cookies. They stay off until you allow them.
What we keep on your device
These are essential or functional: the site would not work, or would forget what you were doing, without them. They stay in your browser until you clear them, sign out or delete the item in the app.

- Keeps you signed in (your access and refresh tokens). Removed when you sign out.
- scholarark.lastRole, scholarark.onboarded
- Remember whether you sign in as a learner or tutor and that you finished onboarding, so you aren't sent back to the start.
- scholarark.pendingSignup
- Holds your name and role between sign-up and email verification. Cleared when verification finishes. Lives in session storage and disappears when the tab closes.
- scholarark.cart, scholarark.purchases
- Your cart and the payment references of your orders, needed for refunds.
- scholarark.progress, scholarark.resume.*
- Which lessons you completed and where you stopped watching.
- scholarark.player
- Your video speed, volume, caption language and caption size.
- scholarark.deck.*
- Your flashcards and how well you know each one.
- scholarark.cbt.*, scholarark.practice.paper
- Your quiz and practice-exam attempts, so a refresh doesn't lose them, and your recent scores.
- scholarark.studio.draft, scholarark.payout.account
- For tutors: the course you are building, and the bank details you typed for payouts, until payouts are connected.
- scholarark.consent
- Your choices on this page.
You can remove all of this at any time in your browser's site settings. You will be signed out and lose unsaved progress on this device.
Other companies' services
These are optional. Each stays off until you allow it, and you can change your mind with Cookie settings in the footer.
- Google sign-in: If you choose "Continue with Google", your browser loads Google's sign-in code from accounts.google.com, and Google may set cookies. See Google's privacy policy.
- YouTube and Vimeo videos: Some lessons are hosted by YouTube (we use its privacy-enhanced domain, youtube-nocookie.com) or Vimeo (we ask it not to track). The video loads only after you allow it, and the provider may then set cookies.
- Paystack: When you pay, you leave our site for Paystack's checkout page. Paystack's own cookie terms apply there.
Your choices
When you first visit, a notice asks you to choose: Essential only, Accept all, or pick each one. Use Cookie settings in the footer to change your mind at any time. Choosing Essential only never stops you using ScholarArk: email sign-in, lessons hosted by us, quizzes and the study tools all keep working.
